I currently have Comcast internet and cable and I am moving to a new house this weekend. I submitted the 'I am moving' request online and was scheduled for an appointment on June 30th- 10 days from now! I work from home, so I need internet to do my job. Has anyone worked with the self-installation kit? I am dubious, and give it a 50/50 chance of working, requiring a technician to come my place regardless.
Looking for some personal approval/horror stories with the self install kit, or ways that I can get a technician to come to my house much sooner. The self install kit is super easy assuming the actual connections are set up, it's just plug the modem in and connect your computer to connect it. The issue we had is our service had started but after a week of waiting for the kit to arrive, we spent 5 hours on the phone to find out that our order was never actually completed. All that had been sent was the instruction booklet. The account is in my fiances name and I was added to the account as well, or so the person on the phone said.
I then went to the store while she was out of town to pick up our equipment and was told that I wasn't authorized to pick it up. So I then call customer service and they tell me I am on the account.
I go back to the store and talk to a different rep and he pulled up my name with no problem. I had my internet set up within the hour. Tl;DR make sure they actually send the equipment or that your name is on the account so you can pick it up. I didn't even need an install kit when I moved. They said I need a tech (at my cost) and said it was mandatory that he come out.
So I scheduled the activation to be set on one day, and scheduled for the tech to come 3 days after that. The day I moved, I installed the modem, and it connected straight to comcast. I then had to call in the MAC address and give them my acct number and it worked instantly. It took no more than 15 mins. I called comcast and had them cancel the tech to come out with no issues, and no charge of course. Although they make it sound like you need an engineer and a specialist to screw in a cable an plug in a cord to the modem. I honestly thought it was going to be a hassle but upon reading a few forums, I learned I could do it on my own.
Since the house is wired, you're good there. Since Comcast had been at the previous place I was fine. I'm not sure how it works if comcast hasn't had service there. I think they'd have to run their cable to the D-Mark which is that that main cable box that other houses in the immediate area are connected to. Since your house is so new, that is my only concern.
You should try doing the activation yourself, and scheduling the tech the next day, just in case. It was just the internet.
I've had a few accts over the years and as long as you have your cable box, it should be just as easy. At least it was for me as I've never had issues with new accts or the 3 moves I've had over the years. But it may just involve you calling in those cable boxes to make sure they're activated to your new IP address.

Thats pretty much what the techs do when they go out to site. Unless you're completely clueless like my parents, then you should be fine.
But since you can type and use reddit, you SHOULD be fine.
